Vico Equense is a small town on the Bay of Naples, very close to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. The name “Vico” derives from the Latin vicus, it mean village, group of homes, while “Equense” also derives from the Latin term Aequana which was an ancient town which was destroyed by the Goths.

It’s a small but really interesting mineralogical museum founded by the late Pasquale Discepolo, who over a period of 50 years brought together a collection of thousend of minerals from all over the World. Founded in 1992 by Discepolo Foundation and the Council of Vico Equense the museum has over 3500 examples of 1400 species from Vesuvian minerals and gems and more then 200 fossils on display.

A stroll at Monte Faito
Monte Faito is a mountain chain in the Monti Lattari, the name derives from the local dialect faggeto, referring to the great numbers of beeches in the mountain area. It’s a great place to get some coolness on hot summer days.
You can easily drive from Vico Equense or through a cable car from Castellammare di Stabia.

Church of the Annunciation – The only Gothic church of the area
The Church of the Annunciation was the cathedral of the Diocese of Vico Equense until 1818 when it was abolished. It’s the only example of the Gothic style in the Sorrento area, while the facade is in Baroque style.
Built in the early 14th century on a clifftop overlooking the sea. Inside are preserved precious pieces of furniture, a carved choir, frescoes and paintings of great value and engraved tombs in one of which rest the remains of the famous Neapolitan economist Gaetano Filangieri.
Sunbathing on the beach – Marina di Vico
Along the rugged coastline dotted with numerous coves, is Marina di Vico, with its typical buildings from the barrel roof, equipped with beaches and a small harbor to moor the boats and where you can also rent boats.
